With the regular season coming to a close in a few short weeks, we recap where all of your favorite Detroit City FC players and alumni stand as the postseason inches closer.
Saginaw Valley State: The Saginaw Valley State Cardinals are 12-2 overall in 2015, with only three regular season matches to play before the GLIAC Tournament semifinals. With its success, SVSU sits atop the GLIAC conference standings tied with Northwood with a 10-1 conference record, but leads the head-to-head record after defeating the Timberwolves, 2-1, on Sept. 11.
Most notably, Tyler Channell has been one of the Cards’ leading men up top as he continues to improve on his single season scoring record, tallying 16 goals so far, only two goals behind the team’s leader. Channell was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the first four weeks of the season. Alexandre Bouillennec has played in all but one match, and has a record of 12-1-0. Troy Watson has three goals and two assists on the season. Alex Isaevski has recorded four goals in his defensive role so far. Isaevski and Tyler Stephens have featured in all 14 matches for the Cardinals, while Watson has featured in all but one.
Up next, Saginaw will travel to Tiffin University on Friday, Oct. 23 at 2:30 p.m. The Cards face Findlay two days later at noon.
Michigan: The Wolverines are 7-3-3 on the season and 2-1-2 in the Big Ten Conference, and are enjoying a two-match win streak after most recently defeating Duquesne and Valparaiso.
Will Mellors-Blair and Colin McAtee have featured in all 13 matches played, while TJ Van Slooten has only missed three matches. McAtee has notched two multi-goal matches, sitting in second place on his team in points with five goals and one assist so far. Mellors-Blair has tallied three goals and four assists. Andre Morris has played in 12 matches, while James Murphy has featured in four while battling an injury.
The Wolverines currently sit in fourth place in the Big Ten and will travel to face Indiana on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. before returning home to host Western Michigan at 7:30 p.m.
Michigan State: DCFC head coach and MSU assistant coach Ben Pirmann, along with former DCFC coach Cale Wassermann, are 7-4-2 overall and 2-1-2 in Big Ten Conference play with their Spartans. With five matches left until the postseason and a two-match win streak in tow, MSU will take off on a two-match away trip, traveling to Akron to take on the fifth-ranked Zips on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. followed by a matchup with Northwestern on Oct. 24 at 3 p.m.
Butler: Jeff Adkins and the Butler Bulldogs are 7-3-3 so far this season with a 3-2 record in Big East action. Adkins has featured in all 13 matches, starting in 12. He has two goals and four assists. Butler, who currently sits in third place in the Big East, will face four conference opponents to end the regular season, with a match at Seton Hall on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. up first.
Western Michigan: The WMU Broncos are 8-3-2 on the season, with senior captain Connor Furgason starting in all 13 matches. Furgason has three goals so far, the third-most on his team. The Broncos are carrying a two-match win streak into this weekend’s Homecoming matchup against conference opponent Akron on Oct. 24 at noon, before facing Michigan in Ann Arbor on Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m.
St. Ambrose: The Fighting Bees are 6-7-1 overall with a 4-4-1 record in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Captain Ross Hendry has played in all but one match for the Bees, recording one goal and two assists, most recently nabbing an assist in a crucial 1-1 draw against Purdue University Calumet to keep the Bees’ playoffs hopes alive. St. Ambrose has four matches left until the postseason, with a trip to University of St. Francis (Ill.) up next on Oct. 24 at 8:30 p.m.
Coastal Carolina: Bret Mollon’s No. 11 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are enjoying another standout season, with a 10-1-1 overall record and a 4-1-0 record in Big South Conference play. Most recently, the Chants picked up a 2-1 win over No. 22 Hofstra, improving their record to 3-0-1 against ranked opponents. With five games to go until the Big South Tournament, the Chanticleers are looking to finish the season as strong as they’ve started.
Robert Morris: With Bennett Jull leading the defense for the Colonials this season, RMU has a 8-6 overall record and a 2-1 record in the Northeast Conference. Jull has started in all but one match, playing an average of 92 minutes per match. Robert Morris will finish the regular season with four conference matchups, including a home contest against Fairleigh Dickinson on Oct. 23 at 3 p.m. followed by another home match against Bryant on Oct. 25 at 1 p.m.
Albion: The Albion Britons are 5-10-1 overall, with a 3-8 MIAA conference record. Junior captain Bobby Budlong has been a leader for the Brits, starting in 12 of the 13 matches he has featured in. He also leads the Brits in points with 13, including five goals and three assists. Albion will face three conference opponents to end the season, facing Hope at home on Oct. 24 at 2:30 p.m.
Oakland: The Golden Grizzlies are 5-6-1 overall and 2-2-1 in Horizon League action. Eliott Tarney has recored three shutouts in his seven matches played. Brendan Woodfull has started in five of the 11 matches he has featured in. Next up, the Golden Grizzlies face University of Detroit Mercy tonight at 7:30 p.m. at home followed by a trip to UIC on Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. Catch DCFC play-by-play broadcaster Neal Ruhl on ESPN3 for every OU home broadcast!
University of Detroit Mercy: UDM graduate assistant Matt Ybarra and the Titans are currently enjoying their longest unbeaten streak in 22 years, with their last loss on Sept. 6. Detroit is 3-0-6 during the streak, with six draws in their last six matches. The Titans are 3-2-8 overall with a 0-0-5 Horizon League record. Detroit will be looking for its first win tonight when it travels to Rochester, MI., to face the OU Golden Grizzlies before traveling to face Wright State on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
