The Detroit City FC Academy Cup U19 team will field a roster of 23 players and a to-be-determined number of alternates. The USL-AC team will train during March 2022, leading up to a Hillsborough County Tournament Sportsplex tournament in Tampa, FL, from March 31 through April 3.
“The USL Academy Cup is a great step towards realizing our goal of creating a professional pathway for our local players.,” said DCFC General Manager and Men’s First Team head coach Trevor James. The DCFC Youth motto is, “Everyone deserves a club they will never grow out of”, and the creation of the USL-AC side helps assure that even the highest quality players in the DCFC system will have access to developmental resources.”
Additionally, players who are selected to join the USL-AC team will still be able to maintain commitments to their youth club, except for potential conflicts with regular youth club training and matches in March ’22. All players must be birth years 2006-2003 to be eligible for the U19 USL-AC team.
The trial session on February 18 will be the first opportunity for interested players to commit to the USL-AC schedule. Players are encouraged to apply by clicking the link below.
Attendance at the trials will be invite-only.

“We are tremendously excited to have Detroit City FC participating in our 2022 USL Academy Cup as they take their first step into the platform and strengthen their existing player development pathway,” said Liam O’Connell, USL Technical Director. “Detroit City has already built an impressive youth network of local clubs, and we hope this opportunity to compete in the USL Academy competitions will help them attract even more high-level talent that could some day progress to the club’s Senior Team in the USL Championship.”
