DETROIT, MI – Detroit City Football Club and women’s head coach Sam Piraine have begun to welcome the 2022 roster ahead of the Club’s debut season in the USL W League.
Midfielder and 2021 MVP winner Madison Duncan leads off the 2022 commits. In her first season with DCFC, Duncan appeared in eight matches with the women’s first team. She played professionally in the Czech First League, making appearances with 1. FC Slovácko. The Troy, Michigan, native went on to play collegiately at Louisiana-Lafayette and Michigan State after making the 2014 All-State Dream Team in high school.
Kenna White returns this summer for her third season in Le Rouge. In seven appearances in 2021, White notched four goals to go with an assist. The forward from Canton recently completed her junior season at Bowling Green, starting 17 fixtures for the Falcons in 2021. White was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Third Team as a sophomore and has earned all-conference plaudits during her BGSU tenure. While in high school, White totaled 95 career goals, was a three-time all-state selection and named to the 2019 Dream Team.
Shannon McCarthy comes to Le Rouge after spending the past three seasons playing professionally in Kazakhstan for BIIK Kazygurt. McCarthy and BIIK Kazygurt advanced from the group stage of the UEFA Women’s Champions League before being knocked out in the round of 16 by Bayern Munich in 2019 and 2020. The Brighton, MI, native spent 2017 in Japan with FC Charme and 2018 with Lidkopings FK out of Sweden. Prior to turning pro, McCarthy played collegiately at the University of Miami (FL) – where she was a three-time captain and played all but 16 minutes from 2014-2016.
Defender Elisa Baeron returns for her second season in Rouge and Gold. Baeron appeared in nine fixtures a season ago, logging a team-high 741 minutes. Prior to joining DCFC, the Zeven, Germany, native competed for Motor City FC in the WPSL. She was named the 2018 MAC Tournament MVP, aiding Bowling Green to a conference title. Baeron played her youth soccer in Germany, competing for SV Ahlerstedt/Ottendorf and St.-Viti-Gymnasium.
All signings are pending league and federation approval.
