DETROIT — Today, Detroit City Football Club announced that defender Matt Sheldon has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping him in the Rouge and Gold for the 2025 USL Championship season. Sheldon was acquired via a transfer with Hartford Athletic in the build-up to the 2024 season.
Last season, Sheldon made 29 league appearances for Detroit City FC, totaling 1,179 minutes of play. A league veteran, Sheldon surpassed 150 total USL Championship appearances after coming on as a substitute on the road to Indy Eleven early in the season.
Sheldon started 12 league matches for Le Rouge, registering a goal on the road to Louisville City FC and an assist on the road to San Antonio FC. Sheldon won 7.65 duels per 90, had 1.72 tackles per 90, and won 61.5% of his aerial duels.
Before being transferred to Le Rouge from Hartford Athletic, Sheldon had previous stints at Charleston Battery and FC Tulsa, spending three seasons in Tulsa.
