Q: How many players will be selected for a team roster?
A: 18
Q: Can my player register for the tryouts?
A: Yes, only after an invitation to register is received. Tryouts are invitation-based and not open for registration.
Q: How can my player be selected for the tryouts?
A: Detroit City FC Youth Clubs (City, Downriver, Genesee, North, South Oakland, and West) will be collaborating on making player recommendations to be invited to the tryouts. Some DCFC Youth Clubs will be hosting events to assist with the decision-making in recommending players.
Q: How will we know if my player is selected for the tryouts?
A: Detroit City FC will send an email to players who have been selected to tryout by Friday, November 22nd
Q: How do I know if my youth player has been invited to fill a roster position after the tryouts?
A: Detroit City FC will be contacting all players at the conclusion of the Final Tryout who will be invited to register to fill a roster position
Q: When are final roster selections being made?
A: Teams will be selected by Friday, December 6th
Q: Does my youth player have to play for Detroit City FC already?
A: Yes. Players must be currently registered with a Detroit City FC youth club in order to be eligible for the Academy program.
Q: What is the training schedule?
A: Friday evenings beginning December 12th. Each team will end on a different date, the Friday preceding their competition.
Q: What is the competition?
A: The 2025 program will include 4 teams total including U14 and U16 teams on the boys and girls side. Teams will be made up of the top players from the Detroit City FC Youth Clubs and compete in the LouCity-Racing College Showcase (U16 boys, U16 girls) and the LouCity-Racing Turf Classic (U14 boys, U14 girls)

Q: Do families have to book their own travel?
A: Yes. For players who are selected to the teams, families will be responsible for travel and lodging costs for their competition weekend in Louisville, KY. The competition is a “stay-to-play.” Detroit City FC will work with the competition directors on discounted rates for hotels and will be happy to help facilitate shared transportation options for those who may need assistance.
